Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) won their second consecutive game after beating the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Match 6 of the VIVO Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Wednesday.
It’s match 6 of the IPL, and it’s the faceoff between Kohli and Warner – the ultimate rivals for the orange cap. Also, it was the battle between Shahbaz and Shahbaz.
The match started off with SRH choosing to bowl first, and this match marked the return of Devdutt Padikkal. There were high hopes from him, considering his form in the Vijay Hazaare. But he failed to deliver, resulting in the loss of an early wicket.
Kohli and Shahbaz Ahmed went on, and it was Shahbaz Nadeem who had the last laugh, as he picked up Ahmad’s wicket. Kohli and Maxwell continued until Kohli and ABD fell in quick succession. Sundar and Dan Christian, too, could not do much. It was all up to Maxwell, as the others weren’t of much help.
Maxi thought didn’t disappoint – he got to a 50 and took the RCB total to 149. He was the cornerstone of the RCB batting display.
It was a par score, a tad bit easy for the Sunrisers, it seemed. Even though they lost Saha early, and Siraj bowled brilliantly, Warner and Pandey slowly turned things around and made their way to a 50 run partnership. Soon, Warner reached his 50.
But, as soon as he did so, Jamieson sent him back to the pavilion. Then, Pandey and Bairstow put on a short stand, but Bairstow fell to Shahbaz Ahmad. Next ball, Pandey was caught. Sadly, Ahmed couldn’t get his hattrick.
Last ball of the over – Wicket. Samad caught. It was a game-changing over, by young Shahbaz Ahmed. Shankar also couldn’t hold on, succumbing to Harshal. It went down to the last over, where Harshal bowled a no-ball, making everyone gasp and be on the edge of their seat.
Rashid, their last hope, got run out, trying to retain strike. Next ball, Shahbaz Nadeem got caught by Shahbaz Ahmad. After what seemed too easy, SRH just slipped from a position of total control to a position of absolute helplessness.
In the end, it was Shahbaz Ahmed who got the edge over Shahbaz Nadeem, taking 3 wickets and a catch, also a little something with the bat. But it was Warner who won the rivalry between him and Kohli.
Maxwell has adjudged MoM, for his effort with the bat. SRH, once again, just couldn’t catch up. In the 2 matches that they have played, they haven’t been able to finish things off, something they will certainly ponder upon.
