Royal Challengers Bangalore registered their third win on the bounce after beating Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Match 10 of the VIVO Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 at the M. A Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday.

The first match of the doubleheader of the VIVO IPL 2021 saw RCB and KKR  clash. It is interesting to note, that on this very day, these two teams played the first match of the IPL in 2008.

It was the match in which Mccullum hit a bashing century, and the Challengers were all out for 82,  which handed KKR a victory. Since then, much has changed, and the last 2 times these teams have met, RCB have had the edge.

Following the footsteps of Rohit, Kohli won the toss and opted to bat first. They had a shaky start, losing 2 quick wickets, that of Kohli and Patidar. After that setback, Maxwell and Padikkal carried on, till DDP got out, continuing his bad form.

Mr. 360 and Glenn continued to assert RCB’s dominance. However, Maxwell couldn’t sustain as he got out after a superb knock of 78. ABD also got to 76*, blazing his way through. RCB, who were predicted to reach 160 or 180,  surpassed everyone’s expectations, reaching 204.

In reply, KKR got off to a splendid start, courtesy Gill, but he got out. Then, after a quick cameo, Tripathi was sent back to the pavilion.  Rana and Karthik followed in quick succession. Things were quiet for some time, Morgan and Shakib kept things ticking. Soon, Morgan was dismissed by Harshal.

It was up to Shakib and Muscle Russell – and Russell did perform this time, making things much more interesting. Shakib, though couldn’t do much, and he played as second fiddle. But he was removed by Kyle Jamieson.

Cummins arrived on the scene with a six, making us think that maybe he could support DreRus. Alas, this hope was crushed, when he got caught on the very next ball. RCB had sealed the match and won 3 out of their 3 encounters.

Brief Scores:

RCB: 204/4; Maxwell – 78, Ab de villiers – 76* ; CV Varun – 2/39

KKR: 166/8; (Russel 31, Morgan 29 Jamieson 3/41, Chahal 2/34)

MoM: AB de Villiers
