Delhi Capitals (DC) registered their second consecutive victory in the season after beating the Mumbai Indians (MI) by six wickets in Match 13 of the VIVO Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 at the M. A Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Tuesday.
It was the battle of the best, the finalists of the last season – DC and MI. DC was hoping to take revenge, as they lost 4 out of 4 times to Mumbai last year.
It was to be seen whether they could break the jinx this year, with new additions and a new captain.
MI won the toss and opted to bat first. Stoinis provided an early breakthrough, removing de Kock cheaply. Rohit and Suryakumar though, couldn’t be stopped, as they took MI to the driver’s seat.
All seemed in their control, till Yadav fell. Then, Rohit, Hardik and Krunal followed in quick succession, Hardik going for a golden duck. After a few minutes (literally!), Pollard also said goodbye to the pitch. 3 of these wickets were taken by Mishra, who was taken into the side for his expertise, and he delivered.
For some time, Jayant and Kishan carried on, but then, Kishan was gone, courtesy Mishra. Jayant was dismissed soon, by KG. Chahar was also sent home in the last over by Avesh Khan.
After this superb bowling display, DC came out to bat. Dhawan survived a scare in the first over, the third umpire giving a catch as not out due to it touching the ground.
Prithvi, however, had no such opportunity, as Jayant Yadav took a catch off his own bowling to dismiss him. Smith and Dhawan put on a 50 run partnership, till the former was sent packing by Pollard.
Dhawan also got out, just before he could reach his 50. Pant too, couldn’t stay for long. Hetmyer and Lalit Yadav then finished things off, handing a loss to their nemesis, and getting their revenge at last.
