Mumbai Indians (MI) were back to winning ways after registering a victory by seven wickets over Rajasthan Royals in Match 24 of the VIVO Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Thursday.
Another weekend, another doubleheader. The first of the two matches was between the two teams who have been known for their batting depth and power – RR and MI.
Both have equal points, yet the thing separating them was net run rate, MI having the upper hand at that. But, in their previous encounters, RR has managed to dethrone and outwit the champions.
The toss was won by the defending champions, and they chose to bowl first. Buttler and Jaiswal gave their side a decent start, but Rahul Chahar picked up the wicket of Buttler.
Jaiswal soon followed, meaning that things could go bad from here. But Samson and Dube continued from there and they carried on almost till the end. Dube fell after a long time, but that was it. Riyan, along with the skipper got the Royals to a good, decent 171.
In reply, Rohit started cautiously, but de Kock showed no mercy right from the beginning. Then, Rohit was dismissed, but de Kock was still there.
With SKY and him posing a threat, RR needed a wicket desperately. And they got it, courtesy Morris, who removed Suryakumar. De Kock, on the other end, got to blistering 50.
Then, there was no stoppage, as Pollard and de Kock carried the team across the line.
RR- 171/4 ; Samson – 42; Chahar – 2/33
MI – 172/3; Quinton de Kock – 70*; Morris – 2/33
MoM: de Kock, who, after the poor run at Chennai, has returned to some form, scoring this blistering knock of 70, with shots all around the ground.
