Delhi Capitals (DC) returned to winning ways after registering a comfortable victory over Kolkata Knight Riders in Match 25 of the VIVO Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
KKR batted first, and they got a decent start. Then, Rana was stumped by Axar, just after being a reverse sweeper for a six by him. Tripathi and Gill had a stint together, but they couldn’t accelerate so they couldn’t convert.
Gill managed to score 43, which meant his return to some sort of form, and just when we were thinking of his 50, he too got out. Morgan and Narine both were dismissed for a duck, of 2 and 1 ball respectively.
Both of these dismissals were by Lalit Yadav, who introduced himself as a batting all-rounder. Russell then started a rescue act, scoring a superb 45, off just 27 deliveries. KKR, mainly due to his efforts, got to 154, a total that at a point in time seemed too far away and out of reach.
In reply, DC got off to – well, let’s just say, superb, scintillating, perfect start ( we can add as many adjectives as we want to, still it may be a bit less). Like the partnership of DDP and Kohli, where the experienced Kohli was playing second fiddle, here, Dhawan played the exact same role, Prithvi Shaw accelerating from the word go.
The first over was perhaps the most eventful of all, four fours coming off it. From then, everyone was just seated on the ground to see the Prithvi Show. He got to his 50 of 18 balls, the fastest in this season for any batsman.
Dhawan was dismissed by Cummins for 46. Now, it was a race – between Shaw and the total needed. Will he get to his 100, or will the target be reached first?
Well, all hopes of his century were squashed by Pant, who hit a 4, after which just 15 was needed, while Shaw needed 19. He then fell for 82.
Pant followed him just after. DC, not wanting to delay any more, quickly finished things off, thus, going from an agonizingly close defeat to a wonderful, wonderful victory, in the space of just a match.
KKR – 154/6 ; Russell – 45*; Lalit Yadav – 2/13
DC – 156/3; Shaw – 82; Cummins – 3/24
MoM : Prithvi Dhawan, who seems to be in the best of form, and seems unstoppable.
